This thread is the first I’m ever hearing of this thing and god this looks like such a mess.
Clearly a distro that needs $8m USD in funding from a seemingly random group of tech companies. I have no reason at all to question the investments into it from companies like Dell, Stripe, Shopify, CoinBase or any others. I mean their business clearly relies on this packaged up copy of a mediocre /r/unixporn post so why wouldn’t they dump money into it?
Can somebody explain to me what’s the thing with Omarchy? I enjoy Arch my own way, but I get constant video recommendations on YouTube from Tech Bros telling me to install this thing, and then 90% of Lemmy hate it, why? And why 1Password donate $100k to them instead of Debian or even Arch?

What makes it special is that it comes preinstalled with hyprland so you don’t have to pacman it. What makes hyprland special is that it’s a tiling wm for wayland made by someone who, judging by their behaviour on discord and github, is 13 years old. You can just install it on Arch. You also get it as an option in the installer for CachyOS, meaning you can get it preinstalled on Arch without using Omarchy.
Also you can just use Sway, which is also a tiling wm for Wayland. Less eye candy, but probably more stable and less likely to have significant security issues.
This is just hyprland + quickshell. Why are people saying this guy built all this?
