    That’s what the “Art of the Deal” is. It works like this:

    • Trump notices something that tickles his fancy (for some idiotic reason).
    • he goes and mess with it.
    • he threatens to mess with it some more unless the other party vaguely agrees with him.
    • the situation is now worse than it used to be
    • everyone hates Trump, the US is seen as more unreliable than it used to be.
    • Great Success! Let’s build an arch in Washington to celebrate!

      I’m a New Yorker and Trump dominated the local newspapers for years.

      One of his biggest failures was losing about a billion trying to buy the Plaza hotel. Everyone in town knew he’d tanked, but he kept right on talking about how great he was.

      Since you mentioned ‘The Art Of The Deal’ I’ll add that the actual writer got one of the best contracts in publishing history. He got his name on the cover and 50% of the royalties. After the book was done he ran as far from Trump as he could and spent the next few decades badmouthing him to anyone who’d listen.
