One of the biggest takeaways from the Ukraine War is that russia has sucked at making main battle tanks for a lot longer than anyone was willing to admit even in western defense circles.

      I am quite sure this will actually start happening given how deranged russia is about not valuing the lives of its soldiers.

      I don’t think any other nations are dumb enough to resort to this kind of thing instead of designing tanks that actually protect the lives of their crew and having them closely shepherd smaller unmanned armored vehicles, but russia certainly is.

    This was foreseeable.

    It’s one thing to develop a new tank. It’s something different to improve the first models to be ready for mass production and deployment.

    While this phenomenon isn’t unique to Russia is was probable that the limited Russian (as opposed to former SU) arms industry would be able to develop and mass produce a completely new tank plattform within a few years… especially given that Russia at the same time started a war which consumes more and more ressources.
