Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Few places nowadays is it legal to lay around & do whatever you want outdoors, usually getting cited for loitering or something. Thank goodness for beaches, we're mostly free here.
0·6 days agoIs this another stupid American thing? I’ve never heard anyone getting in trouble for just laying around on public property

0·6 days agoThe best inflation is zero. The second best is slight inflation. The third best is slight deflation. Because they can’t control it that well they aim for slight inflation so it doesn’t go negative.

0·7 days agoThis could have been done by any engineer. You need systems in place that make these things impossible. No easy access to prod environment. Proper backups. Clear APIs.

0·7 days agoEveryone deserves a roof over their heads, but nobody is owed a 2br unit for themselves in a nice area of one of the most expensive cities. She could get a housemate for that second bedroom and be better off financially.
I think instead of focusing on everyone owning a home, we should make renting better.
Definitely not good, but very cheap https://lowendbox.com/

Melbourne@aussie.zone•Car hits pedestrians in Melbourne, killing Supernova Comic Con attendee
0·15 days agoThe fact that you can’t imagine a world without cars is scary. Humans survived 10s of thousands of years without them. We’ve had cars just over 100 years. They’re not integral to the human experience.
Try to imagine better public transport, more people riding bikes and scooters, walkable cities.
How much of our cities do we give up to cars? Between roads and parking, it’s too much. Even then they still mount the footpath and kill people.

Just raise it. Inflation is awful.
