Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are we OK with doctors and nurses working double or triple shifts?
0·2 months agoThis is actually an interesting question.
They experimented with “office hours” for doctors and patients were dying more than double/triple shift.
This because the information lost during handoff was more valuable than doctors being more tired (and by consequence doing more mistakes).
This is a textbook example of the risks of lost context

0·2 months agoI have been fascinated how Israel decided to partner with a party that is more and more openly inspired by Nazi Germany…. How exactly they expected things to have gone?

0·2 months agoI am confused. Aren’t their clients open source? How many milliseconds will take till 100s folks will fork it?
Their server is useless and Vaultwarden is already a superior option
While I agree that they are a “at risk” company, I don’t think the software itself is at risk
I would recommend to give a read to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_Side_Public_License
The problem is not the difficulties of any of these… if you are reasonably skilled you’ll master any of them… given enough time.
When I was a student I maintained a Slackware up/running/updated for my gf at the time… was it hard? No but it was a gigantic waste of time… and what I learned is not comparable to the amount of wasted time.
Same with OpenBSD… I love that operating system for networking (the most elegant firewall/netfilter I ever seen) but (1) didn’t have support for multi cpu for a looong time (2) drivers either worked out of box magically or good luck
All people you mentioned have better things to do than babysit an operating system and Debian (fedora I don’t use for decade, can’t say) is a pretty reasonable compromise of not treating you like a kid and not making you waste time
Sounds average San Francisco to me… or, at least, my average friends in San Francisco 😅
To be fair that is pretty much AGPL 🤣
Oh and the ridiculous MongoDB license that is so extreme even Open source foundation thinks they went too far 🤣

0·2 months agoNo worries, SCOTUS will bring it back to reality… power doesn’t like when it’s questioned… and SCOTUS will have a saying on the legitimacy of this law 🤷♂️
You are technically correct… but from the fact that this meme has 600+ votes, it means the majority of the people understand the not literal spirit of the meme.
This is the beauty of two party system.
In Italy at the time of Berlusconi (interesting guy, very similar to another powerful guy of today), there was a two party system… and these conversations happened.
The situation got unblocked when another major left leaning party emerged… for then now having a neo fascist in power… so things are not so easy anyway
I am not a democrat (or even American) but I just leave here a saying from my hometown “today for spite on my wife, I cut my dick”
Sure, keep in punishing democrats by submitting yourself to suffering… I am sure they will feel it for you…. Politicians are excluded from suffering anyway
You may be surprised from the end result of one side not voting my friend
I think the reference here are the various “they are the same” “I will not vote for giving a signal” or “I hope she will lose” that ultimately advantage Trump

As always in these cases… it depends if backdoors will be mandated. Maybe not in the first version… maybe in the cond or third… you need to make people to accept things a bit at the time
