I don’t get it. Why aren’t they already paying for their power? Why is this bill necessary? It sounds like common fucking sense to me, so why isn’t that the default?

It’s so hard to believe he actually spoke these words out loud.

But another one that sticks with me is what he said when he was asked about the nuclear triad during Republican debate. He so obviously has no idea what the fuck he’s talking about, and people still voted for him. That moment alone should have sunk his campaign.

Question: “What’s your priority among our nuclear triad?”

Trump’s answer:

“Well, first of all, I think we need somebody absolutely that we can trust, who is totally responsible; who really knows what he or she is doing. That is so powerful and so important. And one of the things that I’m frankly most proud of is that in 2003, 2004, I was totally against going into Iraq because you’re going to destabilize the Middle East. I called it. I called it very strongly. And it was very important.

But we have to be extremely vigilant and extremely careful when it comes to nuclear. Nuclear changes the whole ball game. Frankly, I would have said get out of Syria; get out – if we didn’t have the power of weaponry today. The power is so massive that we can’t just leave areas that 50 years ago or 75 years ago we wouldn’t care. It was hand-to-hand combat.

The biggest problem this world has today is not President Obama with global warming, which is inconceivable, this is what he’s saying. The biggest problem we have is nuclear – nuclear proliferation and having some maniac, having some madman go out and get a nuclear weapon. That’s in my opinion, that is the single biggest problem that our country faces right now."

HE HAD NO FUCKING CLUE WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT. So they asked him again, giving him the benefit of the doubt?:

And Trump responded with:

How, please tell me how this did not sink his candidacy? How is it possible people still voted for him? It’s absolutely terrifying to me, honestly.

I have read a lot of Trump crap over the years but I must have missed this one. It’s… terrifying. Entirely deranged.

During a trial in Florida, DeSantis’ officials were actually asked to define ‘woke’ and, for example, this is the answer General Counsel gave:

“it would be the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them.”

I just wanted to let you know, I’ve used the JBL Tune 225TWS for years and they still work. Like you said, definitely not the best, but good enough while I’m on a bus or something.

I even still have my Tune220TWS, which are older, but they also still work. The only reason I stopped using those was because they still use micro-USB and my last cable broke. All I had left were USB-C (due to the EU law that made it universal).

tl;dr: they might not be the best sound quality, but their devices last a long time. I’ve even dropped mine a few times and they survived it.

I think we need to accept that humans really just don’t want (many) kids, and that the so-called ‘urge to procreate’ is really just the ‘urge to have sex’ - and unlike 500 years ago they are no longer the same thing. We can choose to have all the sex we want without becoming pregnant. That is what people want, and it has nothing to do with affordability.

Sure, money might be one factor of many for some people, but if money was really the main issue, then rich countries would have a higher fertility rate, right? Rich people would have more kids, right? Well, the opposite is true. People getting richer, more educated, having better access to healthcare, and last but not least: women obtaining more rights… All of this has made it so people have fewer children. Are we really going to keep deluding ourselves and write it all off as a financial issue? People nowadays are not poorer than in the past. All throughout history poor people have been having kids. It’s just that now they have a choice. And they choose not to.

tl;dr I think what has changed is that people (read: women) have a choice now and they simply choose not to have (as many) kids.

Look, we’re never going to agree about this, I think. Sure there are a lot of problems for young people nowadays, but maybe we can find some actual solutions? Maybe, I don’t know, vote in people who actually make life more affordable? Maybe trying to pass some laws that make it easier for people to survive. Maybe make healthcare more affordable, education more accessible, build some sort of safety nets for people, a living wage, whatever; make life better for people so they don’t have to wait until their parents finally die to make something of their own lives. Actual systemic changes in stead of just making it more bearable for some people.

But imo we shouldn’t go and try to create a world wherein parents are no longer humans but only inheritance dispensers who can’t live their own lives.

In case you were wondering, no I don’t have or want kids, and no, it has nothing to do with money.

But I’m thinking that you are American, right? Because I have never even wanted to own my own home. It has never been a requirement to live comfortably. It’s not needed as an ‘insurance’ or investment. And I have never seen my parents as some bag of money I get to spend when they finally decide to die. It’s disturbing to me that many people apparently think that’s normal? I mean, don’t you love your parents and want to see them happy? I don’t get it. My parents were very young when I was born. By the time they die, I’ll be like 60 or (hopefully) even older. I can’t imagine waiting my entire life for them to die, just because I want their money. How fucked up is that?

And people who don’t even own a home, shouldn’t have kids at all? I guess that would solve some problems…

But really, being willing to leave your home is not the only consideration. I finally got my mom convinced that she should sell her home, because she can barely get up the stairs anymore due to health issues. Am I supposed to force her to keep living there so I can get her money? Do you realize how fucked up that is? No. Absolutely not. She worked her entire life and she should be able to enjoy her retirement, and make it as easy as possible for herself, without having to worry about all the shit that comes with owning a home, and definitely without me complaining about how unfair it is that she won’t just die and leave me all her crap.

Sure, but there’s a very large area between not contributing at all and not being allowed to sell your own home. Parents can contribute in plenty of ways without being forced to keep living in a house because their kids care more about an inheritance than their parent’s wishes/well-being.

Sure, there is nothing wrong with that at all. All parents want to make sure their kids live better lives than they did, right? My parents also worked hard and paid for all that, my mom still helps my brother with things sometimes, helps pay for stuff when needed, but the OP makes it sound like those parents did something wrong by selling their house, and that actually they were supposed to keep it, against their will, so their kid could get the money? I think that’s complete bullshit. It’s their house, they get to do with it what they want. OP should be happy that their parents have such a house to sell in the first place, because there are a lot of people who don’t even have that.

Exactly. I don’t really understand this post or what it’s trying to say. My parents worked hard, and then when they retire they should get to enjoy it, isn’t that the point?

My mom is almost 60 now and she is finally trying to sell the house. My brother and I grew up in it, but it’s way too big for her alone. I told her she should sell it and find some small apartment to rent somewhere, so she doesn’t have to fix/pay everything herself anymore.

Dramatic much? Canceling a subscription is ‘the unthinkable’ now? For fuck’s sake.

Wow, yours is a bit older than mine. Hopefully mine will keep functioning that long as well! I don’t honestly think it’ll break down any day now, but you never know. Things are known to happen, and when they do happen it’s always at the most inconvenient of times! Also, my computer is very heavily used, every day. Lots of games too.

I was surprised about my phone. I don’t even know how many times I dropped it already and the battery is still good enough to survive an entire day. Truly, I dread getting a new one. I always hate having to figure out the settings, downloading and installing every thing, and configuring the thing exactly the way I want to. If it were up to me I’d keep using the same one forever, but I doubt even my stubborn phone will outlast me. ;)

True enough, my previous phone I kept until my banking app stopped working (my very, very old version of android was no longer supported) and my current phone is from 2019. I don’t think people need new phones/tablets/computers every year.

However… eventually I’m going to be needing a new computer. My desktop is about 6 years old now. And if it broke down right now, I don’t even know if I could afford to build a new one, unless I build one that’s worse than the one I currently own - and probably way more expensive than it was years ago (the RAM price alone is insane already).

And my phone won’t last another 6 years either. Although, who knows, it might. It seems indestructible so far, lol.
