I live in one of the bluest states; I actually like our politicians well enough. My district’s house rep in particular has been consistently on the right side of every important vote I’ve checked up on. As a result, though, I don’t exactly have a lot of contact with the crazier part of the population.

Then go and vote for better politicians. Talk to those who don’t. Try to reason, get them to understand.
