There’s a word for this in mandarin - Dao Mei (forgive me if I got the spelling wrong). But from what I’ve been told, it doesn’t quite mean “bad luck” which implies you had no control over it; but it means that bad things are happening to you because you put yourself into that position
Spelling is right - it’s 倒霉 / 倒霉 if you wanna look it up
Rake-stepping is the new lingo I’d say
It’s basically this meme in another format:

I’m in this comic and I don’t like it
Same, and same. I must be an emotional masochist or something.
How I see people who don’t follow my exact prescribed advice that I came up with without knowing the situation
Legit. If someone in my life did this I’d believe them when they say they don’t know why they don’t move it away. Maybe they can’t. Mental health issues can often look like a person standing in fire, not moving out of the fire, just letting it consume them as normal folk watch on talking about how they should have just walked into the water.
Yeah, to an outsider it looks like this while to the person it’s often like being glued to the spot where the fire is and is fucking hard to get it off
(But be aware that you can get off it, call a firefighter (psychologist) to help you out!)
“Just stop being depressed” as if it’s a choice…
That’s your interpretation, not the real meaning
Sounds like what you call the “real meaning” is your interpretation
Of course: I made it, so my interpretation is the right one
Roland Barthes wants to have a word
My interpretation is still the right one. I’m responsible for what I say, and not what others understand.
Well that’s just not true. It’s merely the author’s interpretation. Media analysis should extend beyond authoral intent.
I don’t remember if it was a comedian or who/where I heard this but someone once likened depression and outsiders talking about it to an asthmatic.
Why are you depressed? Just do things that make you happy - there’s so much joy in the world just go get some!
What do you mean you have asthma? There’s plenty of air like, right here, just breathe it!
That’s a really good analogy, I can’t believe I’ve never heard that before. I like that a lot actually.
This is like most people lol
In most cases I think it has to do with a large mismatch between human urges, carefully calibrated for a primitive, foraging lifestyle, and modern society.
that’s waaay to much justification
they are fucking stupid, put zero effort into forethought
and it is all everyone else’s fault
Thats some premium triple-distilled trolling right there, congrats
Edit : I want going to ask, because I didn’t want to ruin the magic but I can’t help myself.
How do you pack it all in like that?
so concise, its almost a haiku.

The usual neuroTs confused by neuroDs.
neuroDeez nuts
this is retarded and I voted for trump four times.
– typical Trump voter
Just in case your insult is dedicated to me, I let you know that I don’t even vote
An additional opinion is that you should never take a feminist seriously. Even clowns are more respectable and rational than those
It doesn’t anything to do with “surrender”. American, French and many other revolutions who changed the history weren’t “voted”. The real change is not possible through a comfy election.
The person who wrote that article you’ve shared is one of the kind that is so over wrapped by her metropolitan way of life, that she is unable to see the big picture. She’s the kind of person who thinks that milk come from the supermarket, and electricity come from her bedroom’s light switch. She might write kind of poetically (a bit clumsy, however), but it’s super easy to tell she’s not wise at all.
I do not talk to these people about strategy because they do not understand the difference between morality and logistics. They think refusing to vote is a “statement.” I think refusing to vote is a surrender. It is a way of telling me you are comfortable enough to survive fascism, so you don’t mind letting it in the front door just to teach the Democrats a lesson.
When you are disabled, when you are poor, “harm reduction” isn’t a buzzword. It is the difference between a bruise and a broken bone. It is the difference between losing a program that feeds you and keeping it for one more agonizing, underfunded year.
Does this sound like the voice of privilege to you?
You’re either trolling or a moron and I don’t care which. Good day.
Not a troll and not a moron: I’m just a misunderstood sage and mastermind 😇
it wasn’t, but this one might be.
I refuse to vote because she’s just as bad as he is.
– some retarded voter
Your mom didn’t say so last night, haha 🤭
I don’t understand, what do you mean?
Really? it seems you’re the retard after all, haha ^^
what’s that supposed to mean?
haha, really? you still don’t understand? Man, you really need a brain.
When you don’t vote you are making it easier for the candidate you hate most to win.
The trick is to vote against the worst candidate.
Voting for the second worst candidate every fucking time for decades because there is no one better is how we slid so far to the right that one party is openly fascist and the other refuses to stop supporting genocide.
No, citizens United did that. Voting third party is a waste because 60% of voters will always vote red or blue because that’s their identity. We can only do damage mitigation until we get ranked choice voting.
The primary is where you get a say. Everywhere else is rigged and they don’t care if you waste your vote.
The primary is where you get a say.
Is it?
I respect your position, but I think it’s more complex than that. There’s a phrase I like to quote, which says “If vote were able to change anything, it would be illegal”. Think about it: It doesn’t matter if you vote Trump, Biden, Harris or Lisa Simpson: you’ll always get a new war, bigger debt, worsen economy and less freedom.
That makes a ton of sense. That must be why the GOP works so hard to disenfranchise voters—because they know that it’s utterly meaningless. Your position is ill-considered to the point of idiocy.
You’re so angry man, hahaha. I’m glad I ruined your day 🤭 . And regarding your non-rational answer, let me tell you that “GOP works so hard” (or cheat, if you prefer) just to win, in the same way that two CocaCola employees compete for a promotion, but regardless on which one wins, the company will keep producing CocaCola. I know this might be too complex and hard to understand for your undeveloped low IQ brain, but if you want I can make a little doodle that can be helpful
My god you’re an ass. I’m just going to block you so I don’t have to see your insane takes and bad comics.
hahaha, very funny 🤭
I wish I were lucky enough to be equally negatively impacted based on who gets elected. But unfortunately, when Republicans win I suffer more than when Democrats win.
Yeah we’ll get more wars. Yeah we’ll be capitalist. Yeah, not everything will be solved. But my life was better, and now it’s worse. And it’s because not enough people chose to vote against the worse of the two.
Not at all: when you vote you’re accepting the rules. You’re telling the people in power “I accept the terms and conditions: the one who wins owns me”. And at the same time the one who wins is owned by higher powers, like banksters. In order to make a real change that bring prosperity for all, there might be an American Revolution II, and that’s something that is not voted. But this time, that revolution has to be made for cleaning the country deeply. It doesn’t have to be violent, France already did that rebooting their country 4 times (is currently going for the 5th Republic, and nowadays they need to reboot again, because it’s not working anymore).
And when you don’t accept the rules they don’t care about you, it’s a lose-lose situation
All of that is in your head. The people in charge don’t care if you vote. When you don’t vote, they win more easily.
Your life is worse because “vote for second worst” stopped working. You can blame the voters all you want. But you’re not getting an electorate that votes for genocidal candidates just because they’re the second worst genocidal piece of shit.
Change or it’ll happen again. Or blame me for noticing and keep your hands over the burner.
You’re not wrong, but that’s also impossible without moving to ranked choice voting.
In America, we get two choices and both suck. You have to vote for the least bad. Third party literally can’t win because 60% of people vote for a party like it’s a sports team and will never change.
Your recommendation prevents damage mitigation and cannot succeed.
In America, we get two choices and both suck. You have to vote for the least bad.
How’s that been working out for you? Because from here it looks like “we suck and we’re never going to fix it now shut up and vote for genocide and like it” hasn’t worked.
Yeah, this gets applied to things like addiction or poverty, too. “All you gotta do is change stop doing the thing…”. Sure, politically or about other things it’s probably a choice of willful ignorance. But sometimes not so much.
Yeah, and people will tell themselves “this doesn’t apply to me, cause this gets applied to addiction and poverty, and that’s problematic. So it probably means I don’t have to change either.”
Nope, this doesn’t get applied to those things. It applies to things like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbOtyWTRZ_g
Also to those girls who always have a new reconciliation with their well known violent ex boyfriends
My hands are attached to my arms, how am I supposed to take them off?!
USians voting Republican be like:
I met Americans my age (early 30s) when i was at a Caribbean resort. They were from North Carolina. The topic of US politics and their president came up and they said that they voted Republican but they’re not maga and are against the things Trumps doing.
We were all confused so we asked them to explain further. They said that voting Republican was just local/family/regional tradition and voting Democrat was unthinkable. They then followed that up with something like “at the end of the day, you still have to show up to work the next day, you still have bills to pay, nothing changes”.
The killer was that about 15 or so minutes prior, they talked about how their local society collapsed as a result of a previous hurricane and how FEMA never showed up and then allegedly prevented them from helping out.
A real life picture of Republican voters.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN, THEY DON’T COME OFF! DO YOURS DO THAT?!”
Me scrolling Lemmy again, after my doctor explicitly forbid scrolling.
“The society these days…”
