Legit. If someone in my life did this I’d believe them when they say they don’t know why they don’t move it away. Maybe they can’t. Mental health issues can often look like a person standing in fire, not moving out of the fire, just letting it consume them as normal folk watch on talking about how they should have just walked into the water.
Yeah, to an outsider it looks like this while to the person it’s often like being glued to the spot where the fire is and is fucking hard to get it off
(But be aware that you can get off it, call a firefighter (psychologist) to help you out!)

What do you mean you have asthma? There’s plenty of air like, right here, just breathe it!
That’s a really good analogy, I can’t believe I’ve never heard that before. I like that a lot actually.
That’s your interpretation, not the real meaning
Sounds like what you call the “real meaning” is your interpretation
Of course: I made it, so my interpretation is the right one
Well that’s just not true. It’s merely the author’s interpretation. Media analysis should extend beyond authoral intent.
Roland Barthes wants to have a word
My interpretation is still the right one. I’m responsible for what I say, and not what others understand.
If that were the case, life would be much simpler. It’s not
