Symbols are easier than actual people. Nobody is just one thing, and complexity doesn’t travel well. Revolutionaries are either lionized or demonized, and so it becomes easier for the critics to ignore valid points while simultaneously being easier for the supporters to ignore atrocities. Rather than an objective, complete understanding of the man, you get polarized factions that don’t see each other as people.

The new man was about sacrificing yourself for the revolution and being more interested in being productive for the new communist society, at least from my understanding. So don’t see how any of that was supporting the meme. The labor camps are absolutely fucked up, but I don’t think Che himself specifically wanted any of the people listed to be put in labor camps.
