25th amendment, impeachment, more kinetic solutions…get this fat fuck out of power NOW before he kills us all.
Yeah, are we ready to have a serious conversation about removing him from office yet, or will our republican neighbors wait until the death toll hits the millions, the world is in a full economic depression, and France has repointed its strategic weapons towards us and Israel?
Obviously a rhetorical question, we know the answer.
In any other lifetime, this would be big news but with the current administration and how things have played out it’s just another Tuesday.
America is so far gone that if read “Trump Launched Nuclear Weapons” nothing would change.
Maybe get back to us when the third one strikes, what we believed was an ally.
There’s a bunch of orgs fact-checking this and every one I’ve read calls it a lie. Here’s a possible reason the so-called story broke:
The stakes are not purely political. Brent crude surged past $120 (£88.73) a barrel after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz on 4 March, an event the International Energy Agency has called the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market. US petrol prices hit $4 (£2.96) a gallon by 31 March, and jet fuel costs more than doubled.
After the Islamabad peace talks between US and Iranian officials collapsed after roughly 21 hours, Trump ordered a naval blockade of the Strait. By 16 April, Caine confirmed 13 vessels had been turned around, and the operation had been extended into the Pacific to target ships suspected of carrying Iranian cargo.
Johnson himself argued that Trump’s public messaging on the war has been geared toward moving markets rather than stating facts, citing reporting that traders earned more than $1 billion (£739 million) on suspiciously timed positions during the conflict.
I’m honestly not sure whether or not I’m relieved at this. On the one hand, I’m relieved that they can still stop him if he goes off the deep end. On the other, considering the way he’s governing, it seems sensible to replace post-1948 soft power policies with Truman-esque hard power policies and actions.
LOL AOL
Unrelated, I clicked on their unhinged Trump stores:
“I always like to hang around with losers, actually, because it makes me feel better,” Trump said. “I hate guys that are very, very successful and you have to listen to their success stories. I like people that like to listen to my success.”
What the fuck? I can’t tell if this is insanely self aware or stupid. And of course he hangs out with losers, I think only losers would want to hang around with him.
Can we get a non-aol source?
In a way this is kind of a relief
Well, don’t be. It’s fake. Please return to your previous level of anxiety.
Finally found a system that actually works as designed, ironically enough by not working as we all believed it did.
The madman dines on ashes
I don’t believe it (one source), but if it is true that’s good news.
Depressingly, CIA agents are amongst the least trustworthy of all sources (retired or not).
Larry Johnson is a regular on yt alternative media channels.
Retired CIA, anti-war, anti-imperialist, and libertarian.
I know he has a lot of government and intelligence connections and I’m inclined to believe that he was told this by someone.
Now, whether or not Larry’s source was telling him truth or relaying accurate information is something I would personally wait for additional independent confirmation before believing.
Yeah I need more then AOL on this one
It’s not even AOL. It’s The Mirror
Newsweek expresses reasons to doubt.
Newsweek doesn’t get explicit about this, but the “story” is based on a statement by a person who apparently was not in the room where it supposedly happened.
On the one hand, “Newsweek has found no independent corroboration,” sure, but on the other hand, is this the kind of story where you could reasonably expect to get any corroboration? I wouldn’t think so.
Newsweek goes on to point out that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff doesn’t officially have any authority to prevent the president from nuking stuff. What a comfort.
More importantly, no one corroborated the story. Usually it’s “multiple senior officials”.
Did anyone else check the link in this story?
AOL has this under the Entertainment section. That’s certainly one way to look at this information.
At a certain point, what other options are there.
That’s because it isn’t information, the source is some dude who said this on a podcast but wasn’t there to witness it, then declined to provide any further details or clarify what he meant by “nuclear codes”. No one else has corraborated this claim or provided any evidence that it is true, and General Dean Caine does not even have the authority to stop the president from ordering a nuclear strike.
This isn’t news and should be removed from this community.
It’s The Mirror, among the shining stars of tabloid infamy birthed from the UK like The Sun and the Daily Mail. These kinds of publications should never be used here.
is there any way of blocking links to certain sites in Lemmy?
Try the filters in your account options. I don’t know if link or domain filters are in there, but that’s where they’d be.
Well that seems bad.
This one sounds like bullshit. I doubt even the president has the power to launch nukes by themself. I don’t think there’s some codes somewhere that can be used like a password to launch nukes.
There are. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_football
These days it probably also contains a satellite phone so he can just give the code directly from wherever he is. He gives the correct code to whoever is on the phone, they confirm it, and they pass the order on.
I guess AOL published this in the “entertainment” section because horror is also an entertainment category.
Nah. Comedy. Because he’s a joke.
It’s entertainment because retired cia operatives are not allowed to talk about their time in the agency so it’s a pretty well known racket for them to make up all sorts of stuff that’s unverifiable
That’s because The Mirror is a sensationalist tabloid rag from the UK and should be among the last sources people consult for serious news like this.
On the one hand you’re completely right about the Mirror being a trash rag full of falsehoods, but on the other hand the people in this administration only read trash rag publications and will leak information to them specifically because of that. Like, basically everything about Kristi Noem’s scandals was first reported by the New York Post, which is about as trashy as it gets.
This wasn’t some kind of intel released to The Mirror; this is The Mirror citing a YouTube video. In the event a piece of shit tabloid has any kind of exclusive, credible story, actually credible news organizations will report on it so we’re not left trying to pan for gold teeth in the sewers.
There is literally no reason to ever post these outlets here.
Retired CIA analyst Larry Johnson claimed on the popular YouTube program Judging Freedom that during an emergency meeting on Saturday, Trump attempted to access the nuclear codes.
“One report coming out of that meeting at the White House is that Trump wanted to… use the nuclear codes, and General Dan Caine stood up and said ‘No’. He invoked his privilege as the head of the military, so to speak. It was apparently quite a blow-up. There’s some very bizarre things going on in DC.” It comes amid growing concern about the president’s erratic behavior - just days ago, Trump made a disturbing sex comment on stage that stunned his audience into silence.
I think it’s just a quirk of their content management system. If you replace “entertainment” in the URL with “news” or “sports” the page still loads. Sometimes the middle bit of the URL is basically disregarded, or only used by the CMS for styling and menus.
You’re probably right. It’s likely used to style the page based on the section.
