Yes. In Canada we have an epidemic of highways that run through residential areas. What should be a quiet, one-way street, just barely wide enough to get a car through (with cars parked on the street), ends up as a 2-way street with the same dimensions as a country road having a 90km/h speed limit.
People do not drive fast through narrow spaces. The streets are too damn wide!
