Won’t anyone think of the poor datacenters?
I feel my water pressure won’t be high enough
CIA interrogation simulator
feel the rain on your skin!
You bastard
“Turn of the tap on time, water is limited and precious, love yourself and the planet we live on”
Meanwhile…
If I get my water from my well and it goes right back into my septic tank on my property.
How much water am I actually wasting?
I just moved the water 40ft vertically, and ~100ft horizontally
You didn’t simply move the water, otherwise you could plug a pump in your septic tank and take a shower with it. Infinity water supply
All this water wasted on your shower could be used to generate a spam email or an image of jesus made of shrimp. Before you waste this much water water, think of what’s important in the world, Sam Altman’s net worth.
I remember staying in a capsule hotel in Osaka, Japan many years ago that had an extraordinary bathing area. Showers like these, and many others. Pools with varying temperatures of water.
Hansgrohe has a shower world about an hour from where I used to live. When we were remodeling our bathroom I spent a happy hour there, trying out all the different shower heads and installation options. It was really interesting to be able to move between different models and feel the difference.
Are you nude when you try them out? Or like you just stick your hand in? Or ?
I imagine they wore a swimsuit.
It’s up to you. I brought my swimsuit with but I was all alone and they promised no-one would disturb me. I think I could lock the door, if memory serves.
One rain head and a wand is fine for me. As long as the rain head is wide enough to get all of me while I sit on the shower floor letting it run over me while I contemplate my life for 10 minutes. The wand to actually do a good job of soap removal.
I had one of the nice showers with rain head and two wall jets and a wand. The jets never turned off just wasted pressure that could have gone elsewhere.
I am glad the people who bought my townhouse didn’t get an inspection because they would have found out that one of the knobs just spun and the other knob wasn’t fastened so came loose. The previous people we bought it from did a shoddy remodel that we didn’t get an inspection for so we just passed it on. It was our first home so we learned to pay for the inspection with our next place.
I just want a wand with a nice balance between pressure and area. My current one is great, it has a setting somewhere between massage head and regular. It’s nice and penetrates my hair quickly. That said my other priority is that the head is sufficiently high up. I’m just tall enough I often have to bend over, use the wand part, or sit/kneel to wash my hair, and I hate that. Tall people deserve showers too
+1 to tall people deserve showers. I’m 6’5/1.96m and it’s SO ANNOYING HAVING TO SPEND MY ENTIRE SHOWER SQUATTING RAAAA
Still less water used thsn a small farm lol.
I think something like 97% of our fresh water supply goes into agriculture.
In the US it’s definetely not true.
https://css.umich.edu/publications/factsheets/water/us-water-supply-and-distribution-factsheet
https://www.epa.gov/watersense/how-we-use-water
Pre-datacenters numbers are ~35% irrigation, ~45% thermoelectric power plant cooling, 12% residential, 5% industry, and then other usages.
I don’t know how much datacenters changed this equation. For the global statistics, not to be a US-centric the numbers are a different, https://www.fao.org/aquastat/en/overview/methodology/water-use
still only 70% overall in the world, with huuuge discrepancy between countries.
You’re not wrong, but it’s worth pointing out how most of that water is wasted before some genius chimes in to remind us that we eat food.
They’re wrong though.
I could finish my shower under a minute using this.
Which is good because you’ll only have 45 seconds of hot water.
I grew up on a cistern, so I can be done showering in about 2 minutes flat - faster if needed.
I’m constantly befuddled by the American desire to avoid handheld shower heads. How do you wash your armpits and asshole? Answer? You really don’t, you’re nose blind. I can still smell you, because I pressure wash mine with enough force to cleave marble.
The first handheld, detachable shower head was patented in the United States in 1889 by inventor Lucian L. Waterman.
You’d think they’d be ubiquitous by now, given that. Weird choice to invent something and trend away from it.
Nominative determinism
This is an oddly specific misconception. Where do you get that idea? It’s fairly standard here for showers to have either a detachable head or separate wand. Cheap hotels and rentals might have shitty showerheads, but that’s definitely not specific to the US.
The current style trend is one that tends toward installing wall and ceiling shower heads in the US. I confirmed it with my friend who is involved with design and distribution of bathrooms fixtures. Tubs are out, tile showers with fixed soft water heads are in.
I wouldn’t be able to tell you about many other countries without offering information about myself that I’m not interested in spreading, but some countries are nearly 100% handheld. The gap between trending away from and near-ubiquity is pretty visible
Handheld shower heads are really necessary for cleaning all the walls and corners of the shower itself. But, since my body moves, I have never had a problem getting a shower stream to sufficiently rinse any part of my body.
I’m 60, American, and every shower in every home I’ve lived in had a handheld shower, since I was a kid.
It’s not an American thing. It’s just a certain people thing. I expect there are plenty of people in other countries who also don’t use them.
Beyond that, yeah, I agree, these things are the way to go:

I mean, I was mostly trying to be sensationalist about something that doesn’t really matter much, but the US is currently trending away from handhelds. Which i personally find silly as they’re just an all around better experience for me. But “there’s currently a downward trend” is much less fun to write than “sniff”
Soap and washcloth
We got one of these a few years ago and boy, is it a game changer. Highly recommend to anyone.
Right? And they’re cheap as hell. A $30 head with like 45 settings will last 10 years and save enough water to visibly cut your water usage or your massage budget or your dildo needs.
I have myself long wondered how those ceiling mounted showers are really supposed to be used, but just a few days ago an explanation was finally posted here: https://feddit.org/post/30725202
That makes me so deeply uncomfortable. My word
do… you not know how a regular showerhead works? you need to directly spray your asshole? you don’t know how to scrub your body properly?
the armpits is also crazy lol.
*sniff*
…You can’t raise your arms or bend over slightly? Even a garbage motel shower can hit all my bits. Plus we have soap and washcloths here, or loofahs or those plastic poof things if that’s more your style. If you’re relying on water pressure rather than the surfactant properties of soap I suggest you get off your hygienic high-horse.
Naturally I use soap. That it needs to be stated explicitly, well… *sniff*
I get that you’re doing a bit with the sniff thing, but I genuinely don’t understand how armpits benefit from a handheld sprayer. You can still get your pit pretty close to a mounted one, and it doesn’t take that much pressure to wash off soap.
It just makes things far easier, faster, and more complete, being able to direct the stream at your soapy bits. Shorter distance means higher pressure which means shorter, more thorough showers.
I have one of these and never use it, just assumed it was there to help those with vaginas get off
Pretty good for every crevice. Except toes, oddly enough.
You don’t scrub?
I do
You can’t imagine getting an area clean without a detachable head? We use soap and scrub while under the shower head.
*sniff*
Now it just seems like projection
The fact that OP thinks not using a detachable shower head doesn’t clean anything means he just sprays his pits and ass and doesn’t scrub.
didn’t you read what he wrote? he thinks spraying an area down is all you need.
this dude is smelling his own ass and pits wherever he goes and blaming it on others.
*sniff*
What a weird ass hill to die on
*clean ass
If you keep sniffing people might just think you’re into that
…*Sniff*
How do you clean your armpits…
My guy. Have you heard of raising your arms? It’s quite revolutionary.
*sniff*
I find this interesting because everyone I know with the ability to change it has those. I would too if my apartment let me change the damn shower head.
Cuz like… If you ended up in a house with this monstrosity, it looks like you’d have to remodel the entire shower since it doesn’t have normal shower heads.
I always change my apartment shower head when I move in to a nice handheld one and when I move out I put the shitty renters one back on. The landlord doesn’t need to know any different.
I would too if my apartment let me change the damn shower head.
Do it anyway and keep the apt head in a baggie somewhere. That’s what I did for like 5 yrs when I lived in an apartment because those heads are fucking trash
I would never advise you to go against your tenant contract. That would be wrong and a trespass against your landlord. I would be willing to tell you that mine took about 20 minutes to install and uninstall, most of which was spent getting upset at myself for getting it wet while I still needed to screw some bits in.
But I’ve mostly seen people looking for the water wall because it seems “luxurious.” It’s immensely stupid, style over substance.
I’d die, I feel over stimulated just taking a normal shower, I think I could handle a multi headed shower for like 30 seconds.
Put it on full blast and full cold so can really simulate that feeling
I just did a shower remodel and it’s extremely difficult to get the flow rates for these things. Even just with a normal shower head, plus rain head, and a single wand, I can empty the 50 gallon hot water tank in about 10 minutes. These crazy drowner showers practically require parallel tankless heaters to supply 10+ gpm.
Does anybody make a good recirculation system? Basically take the guts of a jet tub and put the jets on the wall.
The noise from the pump alone… Great idea tho lol
Wouldn’t be able to hear the pump over the sound of water blasting my ear canals from three different angles
They have a thing I think is called a water mixing valve. You crank your tank way up. The valve mixes cold and super hot water to what would be normal hot water. This makes the hot water tank last a lot longer. We have one, and both kids can take showers/baths at the same time. And I can shower after and still have hot water. The overall flow and pressure of course is still not enough to run more than two shower heads at the same time without noticing. But that’s a different issue.
You need to be really careful turning up your heater unless you’ve got safety mechanisms on every faucet. Even just 140F will scald a stupid kid/adult/worker in seconds. Many people get disfigured and sued every year over this. 125-130F is about as high as you should go unless you have protection everywhere.
The mixing valve mixs in cold water to the hot water coming out to bring the temp down to where you choose. 140 water never leaves the valve, which is mounted on the exit from the hot water heater. The design is super simple, so failure is very unlikely. But it is designed to fail to full cold.
I have never heard of a whole home mixing valve. That sounds like it would be a pretty complicated retrofit.
Nope, super simple. I could theoretically even do it myself. I didn’t but it is that simple. This looks a lot like the one I have. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Honeywell-Home-AMX300TLF-DirectConnect-Water-Heater-Kit/5018636545?user=shopping&feed=yes
The part on the left is the mixing valve, you attach it to the output of your hot water heater. The part on the right is just a basic T junction you out on the inlet to the hot water heater so you have a source of cold water for the mixing valve.
I honestly had never considered this…
