“I’m saying it right now,” Homan said. “There’s still going to be more bloodshed unless they shut their mouth and let ICE enforce the laws that they enacted.”

DHS has acknowledged that neither of the men who have been shot in recent weeks was the target of the ICE operations that led to their deaths.

A witness reported that Guerrero shouted, “I tried to stop” after being shot by an agent while his vehicle moved forward slowly.

I keep seeing this take, but it’s hardly uniquely american though. Human societies will put up with a lot as long it means they don’t have to leave their comfort zone.

It’s why the chinese put up with their party dictatorship, they live in relative comfort. We might see more resistance coming from russian society now because they are starting to feel the consequences of the dictatorships actions.

I know you were calling on the meme and this isn’t against you, but I have to say it’s anything BUT bold. It’s a coward’s strategy.

“More wrong and harder” is the weak way out of having a critical light shone on one’s choices. To most of us it’s no big deal, but to these guys – who know far better than we do the truth of what they are doing – it’s ego death and frightening as hell.

Is it easier to stand up and take responsibility for all the evil you have done, or to pull a bit of metal on the gun you’re holding a fraction of an inch, in order to kill an unarmed person trying desperately to go on living when you confront them with your own will and means to murder them, knowing that afterward your fellow ICE sociopaths will high-five you like it’s something to be proud of?

For those of us with working consciences, that question only gets answered one way.

For the rest, that’s a personal profile of every single serving member of ICE. They already know they’re not “defending” jack shit and that immigrants are no danger at all. If they were, ICE would not be shooting at them, because ICE goons regularly run from conflict, as Tom Homan is demonstrating right now, and as they all prove when people whip out cameras and start shouting loud enough.

These sociopaths RUN from accountability. They signed up for the opportunity to get paid to play The Most Dangerous Game all day every day, they’re glad to do it, and the ones who have any shred of conscience/humanity left in themselves are being eaten alive by it, as they should be.

And Tom Homan is upset that people who do have working consciences are calling bullshit on the whole thing. He’s so scared of real accountability that he has equated words with physical danger, lol.

That’s not bold. That’s weakness. A fucking snowflake in a skin suit who could never personally bear even a fraction of the suffering he readily metes out to others.

Joe Biden spent a record amount on ICE camps while the threat of fascism was obviously clear.

Obama not only discovered Homan, but awarded him with a medal when Homan devised a plan to separate migrant children from their parents at detention centers.

Every single dem senator voted to confirm Marco Rubio, who has obviously been one of the biggest champions of "immigration enforcement.

They’re not entirely wrong when they say the Democrats gave them a mandate.

I mean we have to acknolwedge that Rubio and Homan did not act back then the way they do now. A Christian Nationalist (Nat-C) movement electing a fascist president has a way of bringing the latent bigot out of people that may have been decent at suppressing it in the past.

People across this nation have been experiencing that on a personal level with their family/friends for the last decade.

Democrats, we know you, we know that you can do better because sometimes you do. You share our values. Even if your political leaders are captured by capitalist interests, you cheer when they do the right thing. So it is very frustrating to us to see you choose wrong.

This reminds me of the “you know, the southern states who supported slavery were all democrats” rhetoric.

ICE before 2024 was a completely different agency. Trying to argue that the democratic party is somehow to blame for Trump’s executive orders, the construction/creation of concentration camps over the last year, and mass hiring of a bunch of untrained white nationalists is an absolutely insane take.

Here in Chile, when one President declared war on their people, we trashed the country until his governance was all but surrendered, and we even got the chance of making a new Constitution out of it (the idiots blew it, but that’s for Season 2 of the series). He got lucky to make it out of the Presidential building in one piece (we historically don’t like it when armed conflict touches the place).

The difference is, our police are armed more heavily than some nations military. And our military is more heavily armed than nearly every other nation combined… And that’s forgetting that we’ve allowed technocrats to install nationwide government surveillance, tracking and recording. Both online and in public places.

It’s not so easy as just “revolt”.

I used longitudinal distance because I wasn’t 100% certain if the measurement for Chile is measuring a line between its two furthest points or just the distance between it’s northernmost and southernmost latitudes. If it’s the latter then it’s a fair comparison, and if it’s the former then Chile gets an unfair advantage but it doesn’t change the result.

I’ll take the unpopular point that I think is more relevant: it really isn’t that bad for me and likely a lot of other people

My costs are up but I can absorb it, and materially my life isn’t that different. America should 100% buck these fascists, and I think we’re fucked as a country given the bald faced corruption + bigotry, but if my experience holds true for most of the others then it’s still not bad enough to risk what we have.

People have to lose a lot more for things to change.

So because I don’t go around murdering people who vote Republican, I’m a Nazi?

That’s a viewpoint that will really win a debate. Also, I’m guessing that makes you a Nazi, seeing as you live in the US and don’t seem to be in prison right now.

In the US, we can vote for politicians and we can go to protests and speak out against things we don’t like. We can boycott companies and events. Anything more than that risks more than just “making waves.” People are being killed for protesting ICE.

The point the person you are calling a Nazi is trying to make is that things aren’t bad enough yet that normal people who are just trying to keep their families safe would be willing to commit violent acts. Are you out there doing more than just typing on a keyboard or holding up signs at a protest?

I didn’t call you a Nazi, but if you’re feeling attacked, maybe take some time to reflect. That said, you seem to be willing to do the short term protections for your family. What about the long term? A decade from now? Two decades?

Myopia is best friends with timidity.

Voting is broken here. With entities like AIPAC and the Epstein class manipulating our system, with politicians too scared to do the right thing, with our antiquated system of representation that has had every loophole exploited, to rely on voting to save us is about as short-sighted as one can get.

I am not in prison. I am, however, doing things and I’m unwilling to write any of it down, even if it’s on Lemmy.

No “blue wave” will save us in November if the newly elected officials do nothing to limit their own power, or set term limits, or impeach Trump and find him accountable.

Yeah, things are degrading in the U.S. for everyone, but some faster than others. It’s easy to see the headlines that amplify the worst parts of America and think that’s life for everyone right now.

It probably will be soon enough, but not enough people are experiencing that quite yet, so that’s why there’s no urgency / mass outrage at the moment.

For a much more people oriented answer: I’m trying to survive. I’m trying to make sure my dad takes his medication right so he doesn’t die. I’m trying to figure out how to pay bills when the local government I work for gave everyone a 2% cost of living raise, then raised taxes 3% and gave the city manager a $26,000 raise even though he was already being paid close to $200k. The only other person I know that doesn’t think trump and all his cronies are the bees knees is elderly, has no retirement and is desperately trying to keep working despite health issues because her husband has cancer and she needs to keep working to pay his bills. Even if I made a ton of money and had help with my dad, I still wouldn’t be able to do anything because of my health, either (I am 100% that friend who would get eaten by the zombies first) I’m not young anymore, either.

I think the internet makes it seem like a lot more people hate what’s going on than there actually is. In my experience, i see a small number of crazy Trump fanatics, a small number of concerned and scared people, and then the vast majority just don’t care. At least for now. That’ll change when they started being affected. By then it’ll be too late.

To sum up: more people don’t give a shit than do. We haven’t reached the part of the poem where "Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me. "

My biggest concern is getting close to my aging parents without actually living in my home state of Florida. Fuck. I hate the idea of moving back.

Well that does sound like an issue. Then again it wouldn’t make much more difference where to move to within the US since my understanding is states like Florida and Texas can extradite people from other States (eg.: doctors), right?

Yes, but the state they are trying to extradite from has to cooperate for it to happen.

Do they have to? The extraditing state can just send ICE (aka: Pedophile’s Personal Pawns)

Part of it is scale. The usa has several individual states that are a larger population than Chile.

Very cool. When do we get to the public trials and punishments for these nazis? Are we really just gonna let these idiots run this government until 2028?

We aren’t publicly talking about deposing and jailing these people and that’s just unacceptable

IF another political party manages to take control of the government (big if) there had better be a shitload of executions for treason.

        Yup.

At this point I won’t even feel satisfied with life behind bars.

If you betray a nation (330 million+ people) you get tried and executed. Period. This nation has done it before for FAR less egregious forms of treason than what we’ve seen over the last 10 years.

This is what I’m saying. Political violence is 100% a valid form of protest.

It’s not the first pick, more like second or third, but we’re WELL past that point.

Until 2028? Oh sweetie, 2028 will be just another fascist year at this rate. Seeing things from the outside looks like you are already in a dictatorship but still don’t realize. The results of 2026 will tell the world if there will be elections or “elections” in 2028.

It’s maddening. At least around my part of the country, the 250th anniversary Independence Day celebrations were fairly muted. It’s like people know it in their bones. But you’re right, “America” is over, and most of us have realized it yet.

Ice isn’t enforcing any laws. They are randomly grabbing people and in most cases they are let either right away or after a bit of discovery and such. They so badly don’t want due process because they are not actually going after anyone legally. Its why people have been deported and returned. They just want carte blanche to be judge jury and executioners.

Yes. Trump wants his own “brown shirts” who will then become the SS division.

(tangentially I am ticked off they kept stealing Tutonic and Norse symbols (and one very prominent Indian one) and turned them into “symbols of hate”. The SS uses Suwilo ( it looks like an angular “s” or “stylized lightning bolt”.)

Communicating in text is sometimes difficult. I expect you weren’t saying I’m not gonna go to Valhalla. Putting quotes around the phrase would make it clear.

I’m more of German descent than Scandinavian and I understand that their mythologies were fairly similar. For example, today’s Santa Claus is actually Teutonic Wotan. It blew my mind when I learned that. I’m just very fascinated by Norse mythology. I blame the old Thor comics that I read when I was a kid that were actually versions of stories of Thor in Valhalla.

Amazingly they were kind of sort of based on the actual legends. The death of Baldr by Loki’s treachery, the birth of Sleipnir by Loki when he was in horse form. The half-giant Thor, famous for felling giants.

After decades of preaching to everyone about how school shootings are just the price you have to pay for freedom from tyranny, they all shut up and joined ICE.
