What he’s saying: Paul has an “unhinged obsession with me,” and his motive for the hearing is to “get me to say something — anything — that could vindicate his repeated public pledges that I end up, in his words, quote, behind bars unquote,” Fauci said.

“Although it pains me to do so … under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions,” Fauci said.

I have said it before and I will say it again. The reublican party as a whole has to go. I get the problems with the democrats but we need to make a new floor for crappiness which the dems are perfect for. They can split or a third party comes up or both but its not going to happen until the republicans cannot win anywhere close to a majority.

I imagine the cause for the idiocy is because the NIH began funding gain of function research on bat corona viruses (Covid) at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2014… when Obama was President. And they did that while placing a halt on most US government lab research in the same direction because there had been biohazard incidents and the safety was in question.

It’s a stupid game, because it’s a type of research that had been going on with various diseases in various labs for many years before this, but Trump has some weird insanity relating to Obama and trying to force Fauci to say something that they could use to reveal US involvement in the origin of Covid and pin it on Obama and Democrats… eh. Not super surprised.

a bigger deal was trump killed funding for people who specifically looked for viruses jumping into farm animals in china. he of course thought why are we paying to do this when china should. Similar to how they stopped paying to innoculation cattle south of us so screw worm would not creep up here. The last person in that program left in something like october of 2019. I mean he could not have screwed up worse if he was trying to.

MAGA: “Why are we monitoring a problem we don’t have? Cancel that, and send the money to a Billionaire, preferably Me.”

Program is cancelled, and the problem it was monitoring spreads to America, but we didn’t notice until it was too late, because nobody was monitoring it.

MAGA: “Oh, that’s how that works. Well, it’s Biden’s fault. Or Obama’s. Or Hillary’s.”

I’m not… fuck, is reading comprehension that bad even on Lemmy? I’ve been a leftist and science nerd my entire life. I’m not saying Obama bad. I’m certainly not saying Trump good.

I’m giving my best guess at the reasons behind the current administration trying to grill Fauci at this given point in time. The NIH funding for WIV to research GoF in bat corona viruses started in a year Obama happened to be President. Trump has some irrational (likely partly racist) hatred of Obama. The Midterms are coming up, and looking very bad for Republicans.

It seems reasonable that Trump or shitsack Miller or someone else in his Inner Circle of Evil Twats is trying to use this as another potential way to stir up shit or at least try to throw more shit at Democrats, before the election. That isn’t saying I think Democrats deserve any of that shit. But even Maga fuckwits are starting to lose confidence and trust in Trump, and they’re very stupid, so if they could get Fauci to say slip up in front of cameras and the Senate in a way that let them start screaming “OBAMA MADE COVID!” the majority of the morons who might have been slipping off the idiot train back into reality and rational thought would likely believe it enough to vote the hard R again.

When I saw you listing Trump’s part in it and what a sack of shit he is I just assumed you were also thinking I was an an idiot Trumpian. My bad.

I mean im old. Back when I was in college they seemed at least more sincere but I dunno I kinda now wonder if they were always sorta a right wing disaster recovery option. Anyway if your young and at that time it was usually victimless crimes and that is appealing to younger folk and seems like they are very big on individual rights. It did/does not take long though to see how it unravels. Pretty soon you see they are essentially against public infrastructure and want to privatize everything which just does not work for many things. Private enterprise needing real competition to work. You realize to that they pretty much want no regulation and you quickly realize that yeah legalization might be great but it has to be regulated and bad impacts need to be minimized. Again this was when they were not even as goofy and it does not take long to realize it does not really work. This is why while I like the young turks from what I see of it I don’t trust cenk. I just can’t respect someone who in an adult educated life would take so long to realize how right wing things don’t add up. Its great he has seen the light but he might have or just realized he would never be a major player given his race with the side he was initially cheering for.

love “rapeublican”, and you’re not wrong, but I think its true that Dems were also on the list. I assume many more rapub than Dem, but dont have the data to prove it, because Biden failed to release the full list and the Dems and Rapeubliicans both work for their rich donors, not the people. So they are incentivized to keep hiding it.

      Meh.

I mostly deal with corporate lawyers, and their advice is almost always:

      1. Don’t do it
      2. Spend more money on lawyers

This is in their best interests, not necessarily their client’s best interests.

I don’t know how this applies to criminal law, obviously.

Well, of course he did. The US was funding Gain of Function research on virtually identical viruses in the Chinese lab right beside the market where Corona first appeared. I posses enough suspension of disbelief to think elves and magic are real, but not enough to believe that’s a coincidence.

One of the first pieces of reporting I saw on that shows that Fauci had authorized the research… since that was part of his job. I remember something showing he’d been the one to sign off on the research on increasing the transmissibility of bat Corona viruses in humans being done at that specific lab.

No shit he’s pleading the fifth. The US has done it’s damndest to act like it had no involvement in Corona. To either pin it on China since that’s where it appeared or insist it’s origins can’t be known.

I’m sure 40 years from now there will be a batch of documents declassified that admit the US was directly responsible for the fuck up that led to the deaths of a shitload of people… because that’s what pretty much every batch of files always shows.

Lost at the confusion here. The NIH funding and it’s dates, the research that was being done, the location of the lab doing that exact research being exactly where Covid started appearing, all of that stuff is public record. Those are just simple facts.

Are you all saying that even though the US Government was paying for research to be done into making bat corona viruses more transmissible in humans at WIV, and right then during said research a bat corona virus that is surprisingly transmissible in humans appears for the first time, right beside that very same laboratory… you all believe that’s just an amazing coincidence?

It makes more sense to you that Covid was really spread to humans because some wild bats bit some random unknown animal that ended up in the market right beside where we were paying for bat corona virus research to be done… and that passing through this unknown animal is what just happened to make it extra transmissible in humans, the same thing that was being researched on the same viruses right next door? Even though that’s never been shown or traced or ever shown up again in any other sample in any other area meat market in all the years since? Because the super trustworthy US Government that never lies or covers anything up said they had no idea what happened?

I don’t get it. I know Trump lies constantly, virtually every time he talks… but he didn’t invent having the US government lie and cover shit up and deny any responsibility or involvement. That’s been a thing for a very long time. The US government has committed loads of atrocities and then lied and covered them up.

From the Trail of Tears to Operation Wetback to overthrowing South American governments and invading the Middle East, to the CIA turning a blind eye or taking part in cocaine flooding the inner cities, to ICE gunning down innocent people in public every other day… our government has done a lot of terrible things. And they almost always lie about those things and only release the truth decades later when random batches of documents everyone stopped caring about end up declassified.

Why is the US government being connected to the Corona Virus something people see as insane? What do you think they would do if a virus they’d been funding making spread easier through humans accidentally got out in a lab leak and millions of people across the world started panicking and dying?

Own up to it? Say “Our bad on that one. We apologize to the people of the world. Stay inside, don’t go near each other, close your businesses, and hopefully only a few million older folks will die because of this.”

7 to potentially 35 millions people globally died from Covid. Do you genuinely believe any country would be willing to admit responsibility in that? To have endless demands for repayment for medical costs, financial losses to businesses, financial losses to other governments, lawsuits for compensation for untimely death of relatives, etc, etc?

The one country who (before Trump) saw itself as the global leader for justice and freedom and insisted had China or any large rival overtaken them the would would be plunged into evil communist hell, admitting to responsibility for something that would almost certainly have a large negative effect on their standing throughout the world and definitely do that unless they paid out trillions in compensation?

        o_O

Why are people still downvoting without giving at least 1 short debunk to dismantle OP’s claims?

I am now more convinced that Covid is actually USA’s fuck up and not China’s. It was the NIH’s fault, and Trump administration’s, for abruptly cutting its funding. Is this why you don’t want people to read what OP wrote? You are a Blue MAGA American Exceptionalist who supports and benefits the Jeffrey Epstein Class by convincing people to not read these things?

All is left is to prove the malice, and knowing Trump and Americans, I am sure they did it on purpose to “cull the poor, reduce overpopulation” or whatever Supremacist nonsense those Nazis believe in. Nobody is blaming Fauci here either, nor democrats, they have nothing to do with this. But then again, maybe you’re actually a MAGA for the way you replied to it.

The “conspiracy” is that the USA stopped its funding, which led to those accidents, the same way RFK Jr. and Elon Musk have caused so many health and economic problems for cutting corners the same way, in the name of profit and anti-intellectualism. That might not be solid evidence yet, but, judging by how barbaric and stupid the American government has been, it will not be surprising anymore.

Yup. From now on, the USA caused Covid. I used to be so adamant about China being guilty, you can literally see my previous comments before this day where I said shit like: “How come nobody is paying more attention to the scientists in Wuhan? Even if it was a genuine accident, Covid killed from 7 to 15 million lives, almost three times the Holocaust, in just 2 years. Such a massive punch to Humanity deserves to be further addressed, how come nobody has heard about these people or judged them? All I want is to hear what they have to say, at least. I dont trust China, because I still remember how they silenced Dr. Li Wenliang, and if it was a biological attack to make the West look irresponsible, they succeeded. The USA lost so many people thanks to their president encouraging them to be antivax and so on. In the eyes of the world, that is incredibly damaging.”

I literally was the only dude in Lemmy who has brought up Covid like that recently, a few days before this Dr. Fauci nonsense popped up, it almost feels like they read it and are using it to distract you from the Jeffrey Epstein files and the failure of a war in Iran.

People like you have finally convinced me that it was the USA all along. You are even trying to imply I am falling for Chinese propaganda or something? I am not. I am just talking to you, after seeing new evidence about Dr. Fauci and the NIH.

Fuck the USA. Absolute terrorist country, holy fucking shit. You don’t have enough by killing over 30,000+ Mexicans every year, do you? Or the dozens of thousands of Arabs and Muslims in the Middle East? What a disgusting country, seriously.

Your sister is an idiot. My conspiracy has more convincing dots than that: The USA, the first Trump’s administration ABRUPTLY stopped funding the research of corona viruses in Wuhan, which increased the chances of accidents, like a leak, which is what happened. Same way cutting funding to USAID led to more starvation and deaths in the poor countries it was benefiting. The same way cutting funds to Health institutions led you to this diarrhea outbreak you have right now. The same way cutting so many corners in the name of money has costed you, your companies and your government so many lives, money and reputation.

You think we should keep blaming China for Covid, or the bats, or what? Do you want people to stay angry at China? Well, thanks to Trump doing this to Fauci, this angle people barely knew came up, and it is now inevitable to think the USA caused Covid.

Your cheap attempt at trying to equate that to something as retarded as blacks being sold back to Africa, it won’t work. If you are an American Exceptionalist fool trying to do damage control, keep doing it like this. It’s perfect.

Can only imagine how many people you interact with on a daily basis that have to act like you’re fit to be outside of a nuthouse. Literally seek out a therapist that will be honest with you and take medicine til it works.

Would you be willing to point out what exactly I said that seems crazy to you?

Crazy. He showed compelling evidence to prove the USA caused Covid and killed millions. You come across as a fed who probably used multiple alts to downvote their comment and basically distract people away. I am actually curious to hear a dismantle of this, but you and the other guy who have replied to him said “Laugh out. Loud. That’s a lot of words to explain your batshittery.” Without giving a single sentence with value in it.

I’ve noticed this a lot. People like you, who drop NPC one-liners like these and then leave. What’s up with that? You rely too much on downvotes? Or are you trying to cover up the fact that maybe the USA actually created Covid, not China as many were lied to, including myself?

It’s frustrating, but an entirely correct response from Fauci, because this isn’t and was never about facts or data or science at all. The hearing is political kabuki of the absolute dumbest variety.

It’s extremely pragmatic and not at all politically convenient, which is exactly what I’d expect from Fauci.

I can’t wait for the headlines that take this as an admission of guilt and confirmation of all those stupid conspiracy theories

Ah, so that means all the times orangeboi did the same thing it was also an admission of guilt, right? Because that is the correct response to such an unrepentantly imbecilic line of logic.

But to be clear, orangeboi 100% did rape underage girls, amongst a whole fuckload of other heinous things.

Because that is the correct response

Only if you apply logic, which these cultists neither do nor accept from others.

Same with the pardon he got, it’s got all the traction it’s going to get. Most people have tuned this out by now as old political noise.

        Sadly, its all pretty meaningless.

There’s three types of people, those who understand public health measures, those who hate fauci, and those who don’t know or care about either.

Fauci taking the 5th won’t move anyone between any of those categories, even with the headlines.

Course the Trump supporters will ignore the fact he said it 400 times or so during a deposition cause he’s obviously innocent. Apparently that was only in 2022 but I’m sure they just missed that in their news.

I saw a reel where Hawley said “nothing says honesty like taking the fifth, hey doc”? And then stared at Fauci like he just got owned, not realizing he looks like a moron for saying that.
