I’m sure that there’s some rule of economics that says once most consumers who would buy something have bought it, sales will drop.

I cannot get big picture mode to work for shit, it’s probably my tv but I have a bunch of steam stuff unplayed.
It’s not the hardware that matters, it’s the openness of the software.
I’m positive pc sales have slumped probably just as much, it’s getting really quite expensive to build or buy a pc again.

Described everything as clearly as possible.
Please redo the meme, my editor sucks.
Doesn’t matter. People will buy the PS5 in masses when GTA6 releases, no matter the price.
I’m reminded of that post that showed all the people in the “boycott cod” group playing call of duty.
The bulk of video game players seem to be feckless marshmallow eaters.
Screw consoles and high end computer gaming. Games started looking very good since the PS2 gen. They were just low res. Low end PC gaming is where it’s at. Recently I went back to replay emulated Viewtiful Joe, the old KOTOR games PC version, emulated god of war - they look great. On Steam bought the first Rage and it runs on a basic cheap computer now and I think it looks great. Steam Deck is PS4 level. Don’t need a PS5 and definitely won’t need a PS6. The future is gameplay not graphics
This is actually worse than the headline because the sales collapsed over Christmas.

For AI that no one asked for and at best seems to be used to make comical videos of unphysical unrealistic situations that never happened.

I’m happy with my linux machine. Consoles would have to be a lot cheaper to be tempting. Or I’d have to make a lot more money.
Yep.
I can’t imagine ever buying another console again.
Have a steam deck and set up my budget Linux machine yesterday.
Got so many PS2 and PS3 games I can’t play anymore on a single device. Never going to have that problem again.
It seems like consoles are in a death spiral of price increases and lower sales.
I’m in a good spot financially and can afford new games and consoles on release date if I choose to. However I generally wait a few years after their release.
I haven’t bought a new release game or console for myself in over a decade and I’ve only bought one or two titles at full price for my kids in the last three years.
It just doesn’t seem worth it.
I am in a similar boat. I’ve usually bought consoles a few years in when prices were lower. But since they’re higher, I’m just sticking with PS4 and playing through that backlog
Yeah exactly. New games are often buggy and I just can’t justify the cost. If they’re interesting, I put em on my steam wishlist and get them when they’re on offer.
people are only interested in playing on thier phones, or PAD at this point. people who have a pc might just stick with pc games.
Thank you! I am one of the same with you, I could buy, but I choose to wait. Everyone deserves e better prices and I think everyone should wait to buy their games. Companies get greedy fast
Same. Been just playing random indie games that I find on sale. Way more fun. The only game I’m even eyeballing is baldurs gate which I’ll play one day so I’m in no rush.
Cause everyone is broke and gas prices keep rising making everything in our lives more expensive.
excluding those 2 things, the high price of the console and games itself isnt exactly a worthy thing to buy. if the games are crappy too.
And the console is like 8 years old, so anyone who wants one already has one.
its less than 6 years old, but 5+years is a long time to not produce any GOOD GAMES.
This generation is the first time that a console that is half a decade old has continued to rise in price instead of falling.
And where there is little benefit between generations for gamers. No wow for graphics or gameplay. Just more expensive and slightly improved. It’s similar to phones. In an effort to have mass appeal, they try to appeal to all levels of hardware, so can’t fully take advantage of the new. In the past, it just wouldn’t launch on older hardware. However, even the big studios were more like indies back then.
Please buy our 6 year old console for an increased price that we kind of forgot to make games for.
They want us to pay an assload up front and also pay more for games and to play online compared to PC? This will probably be my last console.
It may be your last but this is the way it’s been for decades. People keep buying them.
No, there has never been a time when Nintendo, the cheapest option for a current gen console, has been $500, while the others start at $600. Considering the other current gen ones are 6 years old at that price, next gen will be even higher. People will keep buying them, of course, but everyone has their breaking point. I won’t be the only one.
…no one said anything about Nintendo?
Also iirc they’re adding age verification for a bunch of online features, like chat. But not for the online store, because of course not :P
Paying to play online is what got me off the consoles.
100$ per year x 10 years = a pretty decent pc. (At least until recently).
The PS4 is the last console I’ll ever own.
With ram & gpu prices skyrocketing, todays gaming PCs will have a long life IMO.
I hope so, because I won’t be able to upgrade mine for a long time!
That was the Switch for me. Went PS3 -> Wii U -> Switch then when Nintendo started charging I stopped playing.
PCs are even more expensive, but the gaming value over time is huge, especially if you factor in 🏴☠️.
They’re not more expensive when you factor in lower game costs and zero subscriptions.
Well, when you add the cost of the console to the cost of the online subscription… Not sure the pc is all that much more expensive.
Also, just with Steam sales, the amount of money you save is pretty impressive.
Lastly, when that pc dies, my next pc will still be able to play all the games from the previous pc. Not quite the case with consoles.
All around, pc is a clear winner.
Did I mention I installed Bazzite? It rocks. Microslop gets to eat a bag of dicks and to me, that’s worth all the money in the world.
Depends on what PC you get.
I bought a replacement video card on 2019. It was replacing my 10 year old card. When I built my new PC, it was replacing a pc I begrudgingly installed win7 on. I have emulators from up to PS2. Pc gaming has crazy ROI.
Seriously is. You can have whole console collections of Roms and they only take up a speck of your external hard drive. Glorious.
I recently looked into buying one, and the cost is just so prohibitive, especially when you take into account that you have to buy another controller and a stand because the stand isn’t even included. And I would also want one of those chargers. And that doesn’t even include the games that are expensive too.
I also noticed that whenever I look at games for the PS4, it says in a disclaimer that the game might not work right on the PS5. I don’t know what’s going on with that, but it doesn’t inspire confidence.
It’s just a cover-their-ass disclaimer. PS4 compatibility is pretty good in general, I think only like two games don’t work.
Don’t forget that you also have to pay them $10 a month of you want the luxury of playing those expensive games online
Lol… It was foolish of Sony to retire from the PC market… Exclusives will not entice people to buy a PS5 in this economy.
I bought a ps5, and like what exclusives?
Since 2020 I bought like 6 games? (At least ones that aren’t remasters)
Horizon forbidden West, god of war Ragnarok, ghost of yotei, GT7, Spider-Man2, and returnal.
Of these only 2 are still exclusives.
Not great value for a ps5, I thought I’d be buying more single player exclusives but there just aren’t that many.
Even if Sony locks down future titles to being exclusive, they are not making enough to justify a console over a pc.
You missed out on Astrobot. Ratchet and Clank was a pretty good tech demo, also.
Ratchet and clank is on pc too
Yeah, it seems like the exact wrong time to do that. Hope it bites them in the ass.
I’m sure they will go back on their decision.
Only if gamers force them to by not buying their PS5 games. Inshallah!
Don’t most people who want one already have one?
And they’re really old now.
And hardly any new games have been released for it.
If MS wasn’t so cack-handed they’d be selling hardly any.
Yup. And if they don’t, it’s cause they can’t afford it, so a price increase certainly isn’t going to help things
