It’s NOT a war because only congress can declare war. So when Russia invades Ukraine we call that a “war” but when we invade Iraq it’s called “Operation Iraqi Freedom” ™ and everyone still manages to keep a straight face somehow.
Iran has miles and miles of underground production and inventory, I don’t think it will be as easy as Iraq was, they have been preparing for this for many years.

Compared to Iran, Iraq was easy. Iran is built to be a decentralized ideological government and military. Iran has more mountains than the US. Iran has more people than Iraq and Afghanistan combined before those respective wars. The IRGC allegedly only has 150,000 soldiers… because the other 10 million or so are trained and armed ‘civilians.’ That’s not counting the other ~30 million armed farmers. Iran has no real central leadership to decapitate. Iran has no popular revolutionary movement against the current government.
Iraq had a strong centralized government, US trained army, and an incredibly powerful revolutionary force built up against Saddam long before the US invaded. As soon as Saddam was forced to flee and hide, Iraq’s main resistance was over, with actual freedom fighters double backing against the US occupational forces after they realized the US wasn’t there to support revolution, just occupy indefinitely. The biggest problem the US faced was a lack of support for their ‘hearts and minds’ campaign. The actual military work was over in two weeks with basic security work from then to today.
In Iran, if the US invades, there will not be an end to the military work. There will never be a safe place on land the US can be. There will never be an interim government, not even one as weak as the Afghani government pre-taliban take over. There will always be some remnant of the previous Iranian government ready to fight, making independent military trade deals with China and Russia for supplies, and handling their own logistics.
And that’s still not going into detail on the terrain. Close Air Support will not exist during the entire land war. Every single system the US uses for CAS is incapable of handling extremely mountainous terrain with no clear targets.
And remember that I’m pretty sure that both the politicians and the military leadership are probably less capable, due to the fact that Ronald McTrump likes yes-men

Yes, unfortunately it seems so. The nation is a natural fortress. The truth is, they’d have to nuke the entire country to be fully rid of the Iranian regime. The mountains seclude and protect many regions. And even then, who knows how many, many miles of underground bases they have. This is a nation that’s always known it’s true enemy since it first dawned on them. It just may turn out to be the bloodiest war America will ever fight if an invasion happens.

In any case, it’s insurance companies that say ships have lost insurance, and shipping companies are not willing to take the chance.
They can, and many have been. But Iran still has the firepower to control the strait, and Oman doesn’t want to get involved.
Iran used to respect things like freedom of navigation and territorial waters, but then Trump went and attacked them anyway. If rules aren’t going to be respected by their enemies, they have nothing to lose by exerting their power.
That’s why Trump’s attack was so incredibly fucking stupid.
