      Same except instead of Jellyfin I have Nuvio because I rather have a one-click streaming solution, rather than having to manually build a library from my existing media.

        Basically all I want is a system that stores my shows in some sort of logical order and keeps track of where I am in a movie / episode other than that I don’t need much more.

        It does the same no, stream your library anywhere. Thats what Jellyfin does, Netflixify your personal library

          From what I understand, no it doesn’t. You still need a personal library for it to work. With Nuvio, you don’t need anything at all. Just pick a show/movie you want to watch, and watch it.

          With Jellyfin, the way I understand it is that you have to take the time to rip your discs (or pirate them), then add them to your Jellyfin library. There is no such issue with Nuvio. It’s basically Netflix + Prime + Disney + HBO + Peacock + Crunchyroll + everything else combined into a single app. No “personal library” required.

            You point jellyfin at a folder with media, and press a button. Ideally you separate them into tv and movies, but you can absolutely just lazily point and shoot.

              Again, I don’t HAVE a folder of media. I don’t WANT a folder of media! That’s the entire reason why I switched to Nuvio! I got tired of having to rip discs and download torrents to build said “folder of media”. I just want to stream.

              Honestly I don’t understand why you guys insist on fighting me about this. Clearly y’all don’t understand what Nuvio does. I implore you to look up how it works before you reply again. Please, for my mental health!

                I… Dont understand the problem? Like if you want to just double click a file and open in VLC, just do that? If you have any level of organization at all, you have a folder of media??

                Like, i have a folder thats /media/shows. I want them in a library, so i tell jellyfin that /media/shows is my library, wait maybe 20 seconds and i have a netflix level library.

                Im not fighting you. I simply dont understand why you either…

                1. have some level of organization and thus can point jellyfin at it

                or

                1. have no organixation whatsoever and thus just double click to open in VLC

                Update; i understand secret 3rd option of

                1. you simply have no media on your pc whatsoever and thus want a collection of sources to stream from

                Which i can respect. Im horrified, but, i respect it.

                  Yes, it’s option 3. Why are you so “horrified” by this? Does the concept of people watching YouTube/Freetube/Piped horrify you too?

                  Look, this isn’t music we’re talking about; when it comes to movies and TV, I see no point in building a personal library, just how I see no point in downloading YouTube videos. I have my favorites that I’ll re-watch once in a blue moon, yes, but generally once I’m done with a movie/episode, I’m done with it for good. Therefore I see no point in having a movie/TV collection wasting valuable hard drive space.

                  Before I discovered Stremio/Nuvio, my workflow was like this:
                  Boot up PC > fire UP VPN and open Firefox > Navigate to 1337X > search for something to watch (assuming that I already know what I want to watch) > click magnet link and wait for seeds > transfer file to Jellyfin library > boot up TV > open Jellyfin and watch > delete file

                  After switching, my workflow is now this:
                  Boot up TV > Open Nuvio > Browse for movie/show > Watch

                  I hope I explained it well enough by now. Do you understand the difference now? One of these options requires way more work than the other. Nuvio works exactly like Netflix. It even recommends you content based on your viewing history. No personal library required.

          General improvements upon stremio in various aspects. Stremio’s Android TV app just constantly crashes or fails to get sources for me, so I switched.

          This one has stuff like separate profiles w/pin passwords, (imo) nicer and faster UI, and has integrations like aniskip.

          It also can directly use stremio’s addons and there are ways to import your watch history, addons and libraries, so it is super easy to migrate

    Yeah I’m gonna guess it’s based on whatever service you are using losing distribution rights to it, because the book is available in the US pretty much everywhere.

        Ohhh don’t tell anyone but I get all my ebooks from my cities library with Calibre. There’s an extension you can add that removes the drm (afaicr it was made by the same guy that created drm) and now you have the full ebook.

      They’re showing a UK edition. British books arent generally available in the US or vice versa when a domestic edition is available.

          Side note: you know what is fucking wild about bibles? It’s an amalgamation of some really, really old shit, and despite that, there are numerous copyrighted versions. King James is not one of them, but there are a lot.

          They get around being Public Domain by virtue of being “novel translations”, but when you see the differences between them, it seems like largely bullshit.

        No kidding, at least from OPs title they were only borrowing and hadn’t purchased it. If a company did that to me after I bought a book I’d be skipping my merry way to Z-Library and never touching that company again :)

    This is the central problem with digital ownership. It isn’t real. You don’t own anything.

    If you have a file which contains the book and has no Digital Restrictions Management on it then you own the book in the same way as if you have the physical book.

    If you borrow a book from the library you could make a copy by scanning all the pages and then give the original back. Alternatively you could refuse to return it and pay the replacement cost. In either case you actually had the book with full access.

    If you “borrow” the book in apps like this you are not getting the whole thing unencumbered, you are getting something more similar to a webcam view of a page turning robot. Yes you can read the text, but you can’t make any changes, mark a spot, read it offline, take a photocopy, and so on. Many of these apps block screenshots, and many also block copy and paste.

    It is crazy to me that in order to have reasonable access to a book you have no legal option in many cases. I recently bought Azalea Ellis’ books and they are all in a plain eBook format or in a plain audio book format. No DRM, no limits. That means I can use the audio book as I want, which in my case means adding it to my AudioBookShelf server. I can cache it to my phone one book at a time or even the whole series in one go. I can play it at whatever speed I like, 2x is my normal, and nobody can stop me. I can listen to it as many times as I like.

    If nobody will sell me the book without DRM I don’t consider it buying. They are leasing the book, renting access to it, but I never fool myself into thinking I own it. I don’t actually own anything on a PS5, nor on Steam. While Steam has not turned evil yet it is always a possibility, so I treat those licences as access rentals and assume they are temporary.

    From a moral perspective if you van have it taken away you don’t own it, and if you buying isn’t owning then piracy isn’t theft. Any claims that someone stole from a publisher when the publisher was claiming they were selling the game are bunk. If they actually sold the game, as GOG does, then it would be theft. But if they only sell a licence for access then it isn’t selling the game, and it is therefore not theft.

    I’m not necessarily against the gradual removal of physical media, and that’s not because I’m defending Sony or anything like that. We’ve been downloading games digitally for decades, and physical media has increasingly gone the way of the DVD. That transition itself doesn’t really bother me.

    That said, I absolutely agree that what they’re doing here is bullshit, and physical media is objectively more consumer-friendly in a lot of ways. I’m just saying I understand the argument from a different perspective.

    Because when it comes to books, I’m exactly the opposite.

    I want an actual physical book. Paper pages, a cover, the whole thing. I’ve tried reading digitally, and I just can’t get into it. Something about reading a book on a screen feels completely wrong to me.

    So I guess I understand the attachment to physical media more than I initially thought. I just happen to draw the line in a very different place.
